Consumers will have to pay less for their electricity bills from April 1. The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has asked power distribution companies to provide relief in fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA) ranging from 15 paise to 70 paise for April to June.

Currently, FSA ranging from 80 paise to Rs 1.35 is being charged from power consumers of different categories. From April 1, those consuming below 50 units will shell out 15 paise per unit less.

Those consuming between 51 and 100 units will have to pay 44 paise per unit less. Those consuming between 215 and 500 units will pay 53 paise per unit less.

Those consuming more than 500 units will pay 65 paise per unit less. Industrial consumers, now paying Rs 1.35, will get a benefit of 70 paise. From July 1, consumers of all categories will pay FSA of 37 paise per unit instead of 65 paise per unit.

On March 6, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced in the Vidhan Sabha that since the rates of coal and fuel had gone down, the HERC had agreed to the demand to reduce power tariff.

Former Finance Minister Sampat Singh, who was one of the petitioners before the HERC, thanked the commission for the decision.
