Women from Pelpa, Lagarpur, Dariyapur and Lohat villages in the district on Saturday locked the main gate of the powerhouse in Badli town and staged a dharna in protest against long power cuts. The protesters also engaged in an argument with Electricity Department officials on duty when the latter tried to placate them. The police also reached there.
“We have been facing a lot of problems due to long and unscheduled power cuts. We get electricity for merely five hours a day while the Power Corporation is duty bound to ensure supply for at least 11 hours,” said a protester. They were also facing a potable water crisis due to non-availability of electricity.
Sources said the protesters lifted the dharna after the officials assured them of adequate power supply.
