Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sunita Verma and other officials of the district administration took part in a cleanliness drive here on Sunday under police protection.

During the drive, garbage was removed from 10 spots in the town from 4am to 8 am.

Representatives of various social organisations extended their support to the cleanliness drive.

The Municipal Council had pressed into service five tractor-trailers, 10 other vehicles, a dumper, two JCB machines and 50 sanitation workers to lift the garbage.

The police foiled an attempt by the protesting safai karamcharis to obstruct the cleanliness drive.
