Karnal workshop engulfed in fire; 35 cars, SUVs gutted

About 35 cars and SUVs were gutted in fire that broke out in a workshop near ITI Chowk in the wee hours of today. It took more than four hours for around 10 fire tenders to douse the fire. There was no loss of life.

Short-circuit is said to be the reason behind the incident.

The incident took place around 3.15 am when the security guard of the workshop noticed flames from the workshop. He informed the owner, Sandeep Bhatia, the fire brigade and the police. After getting information of the fire incident, residents of the city rushed to the spot and tried to control the fire.

Bhatia said about 35 cars and SUVs were destroyed within a few minutes. “The fire was so fierce that we could did remove vehicles parked inside the workshop,” he said.

The fire was controlled from spreading to the nearby area, a local resident said. Traffic was affected on the slip road of NH 44.
