Khattar embarrasses himself at KU, admits to not knowing about IIM-Rohtak

A question by a young participant at his maiden outreach programme caused embarrassment to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at Kurukshetra University (KU). 

Khattar was invited to interact with students of various educational institutes in the region at  ‘Connect to CM’, an event his close political aide, chairperson of Haryana Housing Board Jawahar Yadav, had organised. 

When a participant claiming to be an MBA student asked him why Haryana had no IIM, Khattar replied that he had asked the premier management institutes were under the central government and that he had asked for at least one in the state, before a senior faculty member pointed out to Yadav that the state already had one in Rohtak. Khattar later admitted to being unaware of its existence in Rohtak, having never visited it. 

Rohtak incidentally happens to be Khattar’s home district. It is also where the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state headquarters is located. 

Rohtak’s IIM, the eight of the country’s elite management schools, was founded in 2009.
