Haryana Congress Legislature Party leader Kiran Chaudhry on Saturday accused the Centre of misleading the people on the SYL canal issue.

Speaking at the Kisan-Lathi rally organised by Congress leader Naresh Yadav in Ateli town, she claimed that it is the responsibility of the Modi government to ensure the construction of the SYL canal as per the Supreme Court order but it was deliberately not doing so to serve it political interests.

Kiran alleged that the BJP government had failed to allocate funds for the development of Mahendragarh despite it having been included in the National Capital Region.

She said the farmers were the worst sufferers as the BJP was not addressing their problems. The only agenda of the BJP government is to break the backbone of farmers and other sections of society by raising taxes, she alleged.

She sought the resignation of BJP ministers and MLAs from Ahirwal region for “not mounting pressure” on the state government to get the apex court verdict on the SYL executed.

Kiran also called upon Ahirwal people to make their representatives in the Lok Sabha and Assembly raise the SYL issue. She accused the BJP of playing the politics of dividing society on caste and religious lines. Kiran exhorted the people not to let the BJP succeed “in its conspiracy”.

Former MP Shruti Choudhry hit out at the state’s BJP government for “not announcing any big project” for the development of this backward region.

Naresh Yadav blamed the state government for “not taking” any firm steps to check the rising crime in the district. He also decried local BJP MP and MLAs for “not paying any heed” to the deteriorating law and order situation in Mahendragarh.

Former state minister Capt Ajay Yadav attacked the BJP government for “not implementing the Swaminathan Commission recommendations and waiving farm loans”. He also criticised the BJP and INLD on the SYL canal issue.

A local singer enthralled the audience with a Haryanvi ragini and song on Kiran and Shruti Choudhry.

Earlier, youth INLD state vice president Abhimanyu Rao joined the Congress in the presence of Kiran Choudhry and Capt Ajay Yadav.
