M’garh arson case: Villagers reach compromise

Narnaul, March 26

Following the intervention of panchayat members of 21 villages, residents of Gaud and Balaha Kalan villages today reached a compromise by agreeing to withdraw their complaints lodged in connection with the violent clash, arson on Singhana road on Sunday.

The villagers also promised to maintain harmony at a meeting held at Panchayat Ghar in Bhankhri village. Later, they visited the main markets and asked the villagers to open their shops.

Earlier, the meeting presided over by Bhankhri Sarpanch Ajay Kaushik listened to versions of both the parties and convinced them to bury the hatchet.

Those present said the residents of both the villages were paying the price due to the ongoing row while only 10 persons were to blame for the incident. “All activities have come to a standstill and poor people have not gone for work since the incident,” said Kaushik.

After a lengthy discussion, representatives of both the villages agreed to a compromise. Significantly, those accused of the incident were not present.

“It was decided that the panchayats of both the villages will hold separate meetings tomorrow to punish the accused on their own,” he said.

Mahendragarh ADC RS Verma also visited the villages and took stock of the situation. “The affected villagers have demanded compensation for their losses and a report will be sent to the government, he added.

Meanwhile, Narnaul Sadar Police SHO Baljeet Singh said the police would keep a vigil for the next couple of days to avert any untoward incident.
