The police booked Yashpal Malik, national president, Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aaraskhan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS), and four others on the charge of sedition here yesterday.

The other accused were identified as ABJASS executive council member Ishwar Singh Mor, president of Fatehabad district Hans Raj Gorakhpur, Hisar district president Krishan Kirmara, and samiti members Krishan Sheokhand and RS Sehrawat.

They have been booked under Section 124-A, 153-A (1) and 153-B (1) of the IPC for allegedly making inflammatory speeches during a meeting of the ABJASS at Jat Dharmshala here on May 25.

The police have also booked more than 100 unidentified persons in this connection.

They were booked on the basis of video evidence and complaint lodged by security agent, Suresh Kumar.

The samiti, meanwhile, has decided to restart its “peaceful agitation” at the district’s Janjh Khurd on June 5.

The May 25 meeting was called for drafting an outline of the upcoming agitation in several districts of Haryana and other states. The police said the accused had tried to disturb peace and harmony through hate speeches.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rakesh Kumar Arya said, “The audio tapes and video clips of the meeting purportedly show the accused delivering inflammatory speeches.”

Capt Bhupinder Singh, president of the ABJASS’ Jind unit, refuted the allegation of hate speech. He slammed the Haryana Government for the High Court’s stay on Jat reservation.

“While presenting a Jat reservation Bill in the Assembly, the state government had said that no one would challenge its recommendations. The HC order is a slap on the face of the government,” he added.
