Hisar, July 27

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Dr Pankaj today held a man guilty of raping a minor inmate of a shelter home for orphan and destitute children in the district in a two-year-old case. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on July 29.

The convict, Gopal Das, is a resident of the town and brother of a woman employee at the shelter home.

The incident had come to light in October 2015 after which the then Deputy Commissioner had lodged a police complaint against the accused. A case under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against Gopal Das.

The Deputy Commissioner had lodged the FIR on the basis of a report of the Woman and Child Development Department which stated that minor girls were sexually abused at the shelter home.

The police had constituted an SIT to probe the incident. Later, Gopal Das was arrested on rape charge.
