The man, who threw oil on Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has apologised for shocking behaviour.

Praveen, a resident of Jakhod Khera village in the Adampur Assembly segment of the district, was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Nidhi Bansal after a one-day police remand on Saturday. The court remanded him in 14-day judicial custody.

Parveen told mediapersons outside the court that he was upset due to the divorce case of his sister. “The divorce case of my sister has disturbed me a lot. I presumed that a BJP leader has been helping my brother-in-law in the case. This provoked me, and I threw oil on the Chief Minister. However, I regret the incident as the Chief Minister is a humble man. I want to apologise to the Chief Minister for my act,” he said. He would urge a village panchayat to approach the Chief Minister to seek an apology on his behalf.

Asked about his political affiliation, he said his family had been a supporter of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal and later he was impressed with the INLD leadership. However, he is not an active member of the party.

Praveen’s uncle Bhoop Singh said he was mentally upset due to a domestic issue. “He has been mentally unstable for the last few years and is under treatment at a Sirsa hospital,” he said.

The police had booked Praveen under Sections 353, 332, 186, 336, 355 of the IPC on a complaint by Inspector Krishan Kumar, in charge of the Economic Offences Wing in the district police, who was deployed at the Devi Bhawan temple during the Chief Minister’s visit on Thursday evening.
