Man, woman held in Rohtak in alleged honeytrap case

The CIA-I team of the district police on Sunday busted a gang allegedly involved in honeytrapping an innocent person and falsely accusing him of rape with the arrest of a man and a woman here.

The arrested persons have been identified as Poonam and Mohit.

Pawan Kumar of Titoli village in the district had lodged a complaint with the police, stating that he and his friend Pradeep came in contact with Suman, alias Sonia, and Gunjan recently.

Pawan alleged that the two young women befriended them and threatened to lodge a complaint of rape against them in connivance with Poonam, Mohit and other accomplices.

Pawan said the gang tried to extort Rs 10 lakh from him. He alleged that Mohit also snatched Rs 24,000 in cash and a gold chain from him.

On his complaint, the police registered an FIR under Sections 147, 149, 341, 384, 386 and 506 of the IPC and started investigation.

Sensing the gravity of the matter, Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain constituted a team led by CIA-I in-charge, inspector Jagbir Singh.

The investigators found that the persons named in the FIR operated as a gang and lured unsuspecting youth through young women and later extorted money by threatening them with a rape complaint.

A raiding party led by Sub-Inspector Rajender arrested Poonam of Karor village and Mohit of Roopnagar today and a hunt is on to nab the other gang members.

The police will produce the arrested persons before a local court tomorrow and seek their remand in police custody for sustained interrogation.
