The Faridabad Municipal Corporation (MC) will construct a state-of-the-art abattoir near Pali village in the district despite opposition from residents of some villages. The Rs 20 crore launched by the Union Ministry of Food and Processing has reportedly got clearance from all the departments, including forest, environment and the pollution control board.

Ramesh Bansal, Superintending Engineer, MC, said concerns raised by residents of Pali and Mohabatabad villages regarding the ill-effects of the project on the environment were unfounded. The city has no authorised slaughterhouse at present. The construction work has reportedly begun at the site selected for the project.

A delegation of residents belonging to Pali, Mohabattabad, Dhauj and Mangar villages had met the MC Commissioner on Monday demanding the abattoir be built at some other place. “We suggested that the abattoir should be relocated to Dhauj village whose sarpanch accompanied the delegation,” said Jitender Bhadana, spokesperson of the Sangharsh Samiti formed for the purpose.

“The site chosen for constructing the abattoir is very close to a temple and two water bodies in the protected forest land of Surajkund,” he said.

Meanwhile, MC Commissioner Mohammed Shayin said the suggestions had been forwarded to the Union Ministry concerned as the decision could not be taken by the civic body.
