Panipat, March 18
The Municipal Corporation will begin a three-day drive tomorrow to close the dairies operating within the city. Shiv Prasad Sharma, Commissioner, MC, said that waste from the dairies blocked the sewerage due to which big dairies in the city were being closed.
He said tehsildar had been appointed duty magistrate to conduct the drive during which police personnel would also be deployed.
Sources said a survey conducted by the MC found more than 250 large, medium-sized and small dairies operating in various localities of the city. Most of these were found in ward number 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 14 and 16. The MC had issued notices to 39 dairy owners to shift outside the city.
Earlier, these dairies were to be shifted at Sondhapur village on Jatal road, around five km from the city. Around 17 acres were purchased and roads were constructed to provide basic amenities, but the project has been hanging fire since 2003. Encroachment will also be removed during the drive to ease traffic congestion in the city.
