Yamunanagar, March 23
A mentally challenged woman, who was admitted to Mukand Lal Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, by unknown persons on December 25 last, was allegedly sexually assaulted by a policeman at the hospital on the night of December 26.
This has been confirmed by the police, which recently received the victim’s vaginal swab examination report from the Forensic Science Laboratory, Madhuban.
Namrata Gaur, a member of the Haryana State Commission for Women, said she discussed the issue with the Superintendent of Police (SP), Yamunanagar, on Thursday and advised him to move an application in court seeking permission to collect the suspect’s DNA sample.
Sources said the police had got permission for the DNA test and the sample of the suspect would be collected on Monday.
The matter was brought to the notice of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Vijay Dahiya, by attendants of other patients. One of the attendants had seen the accused sexually exploiting the woman.
Dr Dahiya formed a four-member committee and directed it to submit a preliminary inquiry report. On the recommendations of the committee, the victim’s medical examination was conducted.
Later, an unknown policeman was booked under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC.
