A 20-year-old mentally upset youth staged a kidnapping drama and sent the police into a tizzy when they found him unconscious near the railway station today afternoon.

Ajay of Shyamgarh village was found unconscious near the railway station by some passersby, who informed the police. The police took him to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. To determine his identity, the police searched Ajay’s pockets and found a letter, which revealed his identity. The letter also contained a threat to target the Red Fort in New Delhi on Republic Day.

Civil Lines SHO Lalit Kumar said as per the letter, the youth was kidnapped and left at the railway station; the letter also mentioned a threat to target Red Fort on January 26. “As it was a serious issue, we waited for the youth to regain consciousness so that we could question him,” the SHO said.

“When the police grilled Ajay, he spilled the beans and accepted that the letter was a hoax,” Lalit Kumar said. The SHO added the youth had to pay a debt and ran away from his house 13 days ago, to save himself from getting scolded. After running around for the last few days, he enacted this drama today to save his skin,” the SHO said.

Keeping in mind the seriousness of the issue, the police called the youth’s family to confirm his identity. The SHO said the parents confirmed that Ajay had run away and they had been trying to locate his whereabouts.

The SHO said, “The parents did not file any missing person complaint and were trying to fine Ajay on their own.” He added that the doctors had confirmed that the youth was mentally unstable and after talking to Ajay, it was found that he enacted this drama to save himself from facing his parent’s ire.

The SHO said the police was investigating the matter as the threat to the Red Fort was a serious matter.
