Lashing out at Jats for seeking quota in the OBC category, Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini said Jats were “vitiating social harmony and brotherhood by making destructive statements to get their quota restored”.

“They should now withdraw their agitation campaign as the Supreme Court has rejected their review petition too,” he said.

He was addressing a gathering at the ‘Backward Classes Sammelan’, here today. Adequate security arrangements were made by the district authorities to prevent any untoward incident in the area.

Members of Brahmin and Punjabi communities also participated in the sammelan and expressed their solidarity with Saini for raising the issue of backward classes.

Randhir Bhardwaj, vice-president of Haryana Brahmin Aarakshan Samiti, announced to extend their outfit’s full support to Saini on the occasion.

“Despite having land, jobs and political power, if Jats want reservation, every general caste has full right to get quota. Reservation quota should be given to every caste as per its population ratio so that members of every caste could avail the benefit of reservation,” he said.

Saini said the Jats were blaming him for “shattering the social fabric”, but the fact was that they (Jats) were “posing a serious threat to social brotherhood by threatening not only to seal all border points leading to Delhi but also to cut off supply of essential commodities to Delhi if their quota was not restored”.

“I am not against Jats, but will not let them grab the right of backward class by getting reservation in the OBC category. We are fighting the battle to protect their right of 27 per cent quota in government jobs,” said the MP.

He called upon people of backward castes to reach Delhi on November 28 in large numbers to make the rally successful.
