A 10-member team headed by former President of the Republic of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba visited the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) here today. It showed interest in collaboration with the NDRI in the dairy sector. They appreciated the technology developed by the institute for the dairy sector.

They also presented a proposal to Dr RRB Singh, Director of NDRI, for the development of dairy education in Namibia. The Director informed them that this could be done through the Union Ministry of Agriculture.

The team members also visited the cattle yard, artificial insemination centre, BPD unit, animal bio-technology centre, and the national referral lab. They praised the management of livestock at the cattle yard. They enjoyed various delicacies developed by the institute.

The former President also invited NDRI scientists to visit Namibia and provide dairy education to students there as well as enroll students from Namibia at the institute. “The number of cattle head in Namibia is quite high and the NDRI could prove a motivational institute for our country,” said the former President.

Dr RRB Singh apprised the team members about various projects the institute is undertaking. He said the institute was keeping breeds such as Sahiwal, Tharparkar and Gir for enhancing milk yield. “The NDRI is a pioneer institute in the field of dairy science in Asia where students are provided world class education for production, processing and management of dairy products,” he said.
