Hisar, February 13

A newly wed couple consumed poison in their respective villages of Fatehabad district after a family feud. They have been identified as Sonu and Kiran. Both died in separate hospitals during their treatment. According to information, Sonu, a resident of Gorakhpur, got married to Kiran of Byanakhera village in Fatehabad on December 25. Kiran reportedly consumed poison at her maternal residence in Byanakhera on February 10. On getting information about the suicide, Sonu also consumed poison the next day at his house in Gorakhpur village. Both died during treatment on Monday night.

The police said Sonu’s father Surajbhan lodged a complaint against the family of Kiran at the Bhuna police station on the charges of abetment to suicide due to mental harassment. On the other hand, Kiran’s father Sukhbir had also lodged a complaint against the family of Sonu, alleging that they pressured his daughter (Kiran) to bring dowry, which drove her to take the extreme step.
