As the dharna entered the second day today, the district administration denied giving permission to the Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS) for staging the dharna adjoining the railway track in Ramayan village.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nikhil Gajraj stated that the administration had not received any request for permission to hold the dharna.
“There is no question of approval to the dharna being staged close to the railway track. Permission is considered when someone submits an application,” he said.
He said around 60 activists had been served notices that they would be liable if there was any untoward incident. He added that the standing crop of the farmer where the activists gathered had been damaged.
“The samiti is accountable for the loss to the farmer, who can raise the demand for compensation,” he said. The situation in the district was sensitive, but under control, he asserted.
Rambhagat Malik, a Jat leader, said district officials, including the SDM, DRO and DSP, had asked them to hold their dharna at the site. “We will apply for permission if required,” he said.
The DC said, “We are always ready for talks with them. Since they don’t have any district-specific demand, we have asked them to submit a memorandum,” he said.
