Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has stressed the need for strengthening the feeling of ownership and belongingness of all citizens in efforts to hasten progress, development and growth in the state. “We are open to any good suggestion in this regard and, if given, these would be considered in public interests,” he said.

Speaking at an interactive session on the second day of the three-day ‘chintan shivir’ being organised at Timber Trail in Parwanoo today, the Chief Minister said every person in society must be honest. “It is to instil honesty in the people that the state government has adopted zero tolerance policy against corruption,” he said.

Khattar said the work done by the state government during its three-year tenure exceeded the work done during the 10-year regime of the previous government. “Haryana has so far received 46 awards from the Central Government and other organisations in recognition of its outstanding performance in different fields,” he said.

Khattar exhorted the youth who have made outstanding achievement in different fields to come forward and contribute to building a new Haryana.

Earlier, Parmod Kumar, Chairman, Haryana Governance Reforms Authority (HGRA), said the ‘chintan shivir’ provided an opportunity to officers and ministers to give their suggestions fearlessly.

Harish Khare, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune, said good governance was part of good politics and it was for the first time that the Chief Minister’s Office has decentralised its power. He said the government should evolve an efficient and effective system of providing basic facilities to the people.

Lieutenant Commander Sandhya Chauhan, who belongs to Rewari, and had shot into fame for leading the Naval contingent during the Republic Day Parade in 2015, appreciated the state government’s decision of having a government college for girls in every 20 km.

Meanwhile, Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain said a policy for traffic management should be framed in the state so that traffic and parking needs could be addressed in this era of rapid urbanisation.

Speaking at a session on urban rejuvenation, Jain emphasised the need for capacity building, planned development and strengthening of infrastructure in the urban areas and added that the state government was working in this direction.

Minister of State for Cooperation Manish Grover highlighted the importance of urban rejuvenation and suggested that they would have to move towards the tehsils and subdivisions for urban expansion. The Haryana Urban Development Authority and the Housing Board must develop residential colonies and markets in these areas as these are now connected with the cities.
