Hisar, February 14

As the stalemate continues on Punjab borders, Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, which stayed away from the “Dilli Chalo” call, has called a meeting to take a stand regarding the ongoing agitation in Fatehabad tomorrow.

Samiti president Mandeep Nathwan said, “With various farmers’ organisations having started consolidating around the agitation, we have called a meeting to chalk out a strategy.” He condemned the use of tear gas shells and water cannons on farmers at the Haryana-Punjab borders, saying that the farmers were marching towards Haryana in a peaceful manner. The repressive tactics by the Haryana Government indicated that they had no faith in the democratic values that provide the right to protest, he said.

Kandela khap backs stir

Sarv khap convener Tek Ram Kandela, who is a member of the Kandela khap, said the government should allow the farmers to hold a peaceful agitation. “The demands of the farmers are justified and we are supporting them. The khap panchayats are standing by the farmers and will not tolerate barbaric measures to muzzle their voice,” he said, adding that they were in touch with farmers’ organisations and other khap panchayats to bring them all on one platform.

‘Rail roko’ call

The state roadways services remained affected on Hisar-Chandigarh and Ambala routes due to the blockades. Train services are also likely to be disrupted tomorrow due to the “rail roko” call tomorrow.
