Panel proposes medical fee hike for private institutes

The Medical Education and Research (MER) Department has proposed a raise in fee structure of all private un-aided health sciences educational institutes in the state. The department has given seven days to file any objection to the proposal.

DK Behera, Director Medical Education and Research, said, “The proposed fee structure for private institutes will be finalised by the committee after taking feedback from people. Any objections can be filed.” The state fee and admission committee constituted as per the Haryana Private Maintenance of Educational Act 2012 has proposed a new fee structure for all courses.

The committee has proposed an increase in annual tuition fee, including development charges of MBBS to Rs 9.80 lakh from the present Rs 7 lakh; Rs 2.80 lakh for BDS from present Rs 2 lakh; Rs 45,000 for Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) from Rs 35, 000; Rs 75,000 for Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) from Rs 70,000 and Rs 1.25 lakh for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) from the present Rs 87,000.

The committee has also proposed that annual tuition fee for Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) which includes development charges should be increased to Rs 1.25 lakh from present Rs 87,000.

Nilabh, a medical aspirant from Panchkula said fee hike should be minimal in case its revision was mandatory. Department officials said the norms mandated fee revision after three years for private institutes. In Haryana, it had been pending since 2015 as the government feared protests. But the private institutes had repeatedly written and submitted their representations for the revision of fee structure to the state government. They said the proposed fee structure has been prepared after analysing them. Private medical institutes in the state include — two medical colleges, 10 dental colleges, 6 ayurvedic colleges, one private homeopathy college and 4 physiotherapy colleges.
