The police have sought some more time to examine the complaint against yoga guru Ramdev, in which he had been accused of making inflammatory remarks. The matter came up for hearing before a local court today.

The police said the statements of the complainant and the witnesses had been recorded, but more time was required to record the statement of Ramdev regarding the allegation against him. On this, the court fixed May 23 as the next date of hearing.

Congress leader and former Minister of State for Home Affairs Subhash Batra had submitted an application with a local court for the registration of FIR against yoga guru Ramdev for making inflammatory remarks at a ‘Sadbhawna Sammelan’ organised here recently.

Batra had earlier lodged a police complaint against Ramdev, who has been accorded the status of ‘Brand Ambassador’ by the BJP government.

An application was then filed before the court under Section 156 (3) of the CrPC for registration of a case under Sections 124-A (sedition), 153, 153(a)(b)(c) and 153-B of the IPC.

Advocating the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ during the RSS-backed ‘Sadbhawna Sammelan’ organised here on April 3, Ramdev had said, “Thousands of heads would have been cut on opposing the chanting of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, but we respect the country’s Constitution and law of the land.”
