Poll panel for suspending tax commissioner

The State Election Commission has recommended suspension of Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner IS Godara for negligence in performance of duty as Expenditure Observer in Sirsa Municipal Council poll held yesterday.

The State Election Commissioner Dr Dalip Singh said he had recommended suspension after receiving a report that he was absent during the election.

Godara maintained he had performed his duties sincerely and had been wrongly targeted.

“I constituted three flying squad teams to prepare shadow registers for all the candidates contesting the poll. I also constituted a cell in the secretariat to obtain reports of expenditure on daily basis. There is no complaint from any candidate,” Godara said in his representation to the government.

Maintaining he is to retire in January 2017, Godara, according to sources, had pleaded with the government to inquire the matter first before initiating any action against him since it would harm his post retirement benefits.
