BHIWANI: After the damage to wheat and mustard crop by unseasonal rain and hailstorm, polyhouse vegetable growers have reported extensive damage to their crop by inclement weather.

After the damage to wheat and mustard crop by unseasonal rain and hailstorm, polyhouse vegetable growers have reported extensive damage to their crop by inclement weather.

Baljit Singh, ex-sarpanch of Titani village, rued that he had spent a substantial amount on cultivating a polyhouse crop which was ready for sale but stormy winds couple with hailstorm had torn apart his polyhouse.

“Rain and hailstorm partially damaged my polyhouse roof spread over more than 2 kanals which I got repaired by spending Rs 50,000, but yesterday’s hailstorm damaged it again,” he said.

Rajesh Sharma, a farmer from Lohani village, put his loss owing to hailstorm at more than Rs.50,000. “I had purchased expensive seeds for my polyhouse business but incessant rain, hailstorm on Monday flattened it”, he said.

Relating a similar state of affairs, Sunil, Anil, Ram Chander of Dharanwas village urged the government to bail them out. Several hail-hit farmers submitted their applications at CM window here, seeking compensation for their losses.

Kiran seeks Rs 20,000 per acre as relief

Bhiwani: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry (in pic) has sought a compensation of Rs 20,000 per acre for hail-hit farmers. She and her ex-MP daughter Shruti Choudhry said this after participating in a remembrance ceremony organised on the 10th death anniversary of her husband Surender Singh here on Tuesday. The former minister said though a survey for crop loss was under way, the CM should order a fresh assessment of damage to crops after Monday’s rain. — TNS
