More than 800 quintals of wheat arrived in the grain market here today, but the procurement is yet to start.

Ram Nath, a farmer from Jagaan village, said he brought nearly 60 quintals of wheat yesterday, but it was not procured. “I have no option but to stay put with the produce dumped in the open in the market,” he said.

Farmers Ram Prakash and Chhotu Ram, too, have brought their crops in the hope of selling it at the earliest, but arhtiyas stated that “they can start accepting the stock only after the procurement agencies tell them to do so”.

Arhtiyas said the moisture content in the produce seemed to be higher than the permissible limit. “The agencies are holding back as moisture would be above the limit in the grain which would arrive in a couple of days as showers occurred in most parts of the state earlier this week. I noticed 19 per cent moisture in a stock,” said Naresh Kumar, a commission agent.

Amanjeet Singh, secretary, Market Committee, said the purchase of wheat would start by Monday.
