Motilal Nehru School of Sports at Rai in the district is facing a shortage of essential resources.

In a letter to the Governor, who is also the chairman of the school management committee, Jai Tirath Dahiya, Congress MLA from the Rai Assembly constituency, has pointed out that the school was being run without regular appointments on the important posts of the Director-cum-Principal, vice-principal (VP), administrative officer (AO) and superintendent.

Dahiya had pointed out that a woman teacher had been given the officiating charge of the VP and an assistant-rank employee of the school was holding the charge of the AO.

He alleged there were large-scale irregularities in the school purchases, which were also pointed out in the audit report. These were raised by him at the floor of the House, but no action had been taken so far, he said.

“The state government has announced to upgrade it as a sports university, but if the present situation prevails, it will not be in a position to function till the next academic session,” Dahiya feared and urged the Governor to take necessary action to protect the identity of the school.

On the other hand, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anil Vij refuted the allegations of negligence and said the school had been declared 8th best school in the country and first in Haryana in a survey conducted recently.

“It is an attempt to tarnish the image of the school by Dahiya,” the minister alleged, and explained there was a standard procedure for filling up the vacant posts and it was being adopted.
