A rape victim allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope at her house in Bilbilan village here yesterday evening.

Police handed over the body to the family members after a postmortem at civil hospital in Gohana today afternoon.

According to reports, on February 6, the victim, a minor, had gone to fields to collect wood where she was allegedly raped. She was found unconscious in the fields the next morning.

On her complaint, a case of rape was registered against alleged accused Sukhwant, a resident of the same village and he was arrested the next day.

Speaking with the media, the deceased uncle today alleged: “The girl was allegedly gang raped by four youth on February 6, but under the police pressure, she (the victim) was forced to register a rape case against only one accused.”

Police investigation office Sub Inspector Yogender Singh, however, denied the allegations. He said the statement of the victim was recorded before the magistrate.
