The day belonged to women in the Assembly today. While Santosh Yadav was chosen Deputy Speaker, Kiran Choudhry took on Vij for his “objectionable comment” . This was followed by HJC Renuka Bishnoi’s attack on poor health services in the state.

Bishnoi said despite all the big talk on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, the ground reality was a complete contrast.

Citing an incident from Hansi, Bishnoi said: “On August 20, a pregnant woman came to a hospital in Hansi but was referred to Rohtak in the absence of a gynaecologist. However, she delivered on the way in the ambulance.

As there was no ventilator in Rohtak hospital, she was sent back even as the baby’s condition worsened. They admitted the baby to a private hospital in Hansi where she died,” she said, adding that it was shocking that a hospital which caters to about 100 villages, had no gynaecologist.

Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar said that the government would make one ventilator-installed ambulance available in every district within two months. Health Minister Anil Vij said the government was taking steps to improve healthcare infrastructure in the state.

Vij said that 761 doctors were being recruited of which 389 had been given the appointment letters. “We are making all hospitals online to serve the patients in a better way. We are also opening cath labs in five districts,” he said.

INLD stages walkout twice

The main opposition party, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), staged two walkouts today. Leader of the Opposition Abhay Chautala alleged that the party was not being allowed to raise crucial matters of public importance. “All our calling-attention motions have been rejected. These pertain to the compensation to farmers who suffered on account of unseasonal rain in March and April earlier this year, crime and stray cattle menace,” he said. The INLD staged the second walkout to protest the denial to list out its demands for discussion on supplementary estimates. Deputy leader of the INLD Jaswinder Singh Sandhu tried to reason with Deputy Speaker Santosh Yadav, seeking time to list out demands. However, after demand was turned down, the INLD MLAs staged a walkout.
