With temperature soaring, frequent and unscheduled power cuts have become the order of the day across the state and field staff continue to claim that there is no power shortage. To raise their demand for power supply, people are forced take to the streets.

Sonepat: Unscheduled power cuts and low voltage has hit residents particularly in rural areas. Raj Singh and Dharmbir, farmers from Nandnaur village, said they had three-four hours of power supply with frequent cuts during the day.

Karnal: People of remote area have been bearing the brunt of frequent power cuts. Due to this, they are also facing water crisis. Surinder Kumar of Nigdhu village, said they were not getting power supply for almost 12 hours in a day.

Yamunanagar: Residents of the district are forced to sweat it out in the absence of electricity. Rambir Singh Chauhan, district president, Bhartiya Kisan Sangh, said people in rural areas were getting electricity for only two hours a day. He said it should be increased to at least four hours from 12 noon to 4 pm.

Rohtak: While the situation in the urban parts of Rohtak town is satisfactory, residents of rural areas are facing long power cuts. Residents of Sampla today staged a protest against erratic power supply in their area. Six-hour cuts have been imposed in the township in view of power theft.

Hisar: Annoyed with the power situation in the state, Hisar residents are resorting to road blockades, dharnas and locking up of water works and power substations. The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam’s decision to withdraw the urban mode power supply to several villages in Hisar has drawn the ire of these villages. “The government had installed pillar boxes in our village with the promise that we will have supply round the clock. But now, they are imposing prolonged cuts,” said residents of Arya Nagar.

Gurgaon: Power woes of Millennium City continue to soar with temperature. Last week, over 80 feeders broke down in many substations, while 11 feeder breakdowns were reported on Tuesday and 24 on Monday. These breakdowns have been triggering power cuts in Sectors 56, 57, 47, 43, South City, Nirvana, DLF phases I-III, Rajendra Park, Civil Lines, Railway Road, Pataudi Road and Sheetla Mata Road.

Bhiwani: Despite government’s promise of providing single-phase power lines to ‘dhanis’, the work on the project at Badhra, Berla, Mandhi and Laat is yet to take off. Rajesh Singh, a farmer from Laat village, said they get power supply for only five-six hours, while Tosham, Behl and Bhiwani towns received power up to 18 hours.

Sirsa: The consumption of electricity has doubled in Sirsa district from what it was in April. There are frequent complaints of breakdowns from various parts of Sirsa, Kalanwali, Rania, Ellenabad and Dabwali towns as well as from other villages in the district.
