Farmers of this district’s 10 villages questioned fairness of the girdawari report sent to the Haryana Government after assessing the quantum of loss caused by unseaonal rain and hailstorm to the rabi crops.

They, during a meeting organised by the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti here today, termed the assessed loss to crops “much less” than the actual. The meeting demanded of the state government to make the report public.

“The authorities have mocked farmers by calculating the crop loss much less than the actual loss. The actual loss is double than the official figure. The affected farmers are dissatisfied with the report and ready to take on the government,” said Rajender Singh, convener of the samiti.

The farmers slammed the government for not announcing any compensation for the family of farmers who either ended their lives or died of shock over crop damage.

The meeting resolved to form village-level committees for taking out a protest march in Rewari on May 15.

DC Yash Garg, said 35,587 acres in the district had been found affected. “Crops spread over 25,619 acres have suffered over 75% loss, 4,022 acres between 50 and 75% and 5,945 acres witnessed loss up to 50%,” he added.
