The Municipal Corporation has served notices on the firm which constructed the roads in Ward 8 here two years ago after the sample of inter-locking tiles used on the roads failed the quality test.

The MC has served the notices for the recovery of Rs 6 lakh claimed by the firm for the construction. The MC has also served notices on then Municipal Engineer Ishwar Sharma and Junior Engineer Dheeraj, said MC Commissioner Sumedha Kataria. They both were accused of wrong entries in the measurement book, she said.

She said the roads were constructed in 2014 by contractor Subhash Chand. Subhash Chander Bajaj, a resident, had filed an RTI inquiry for seeking some details related to the roads. He had demanded quality test of the tiles, Kataria said.

The tiles had passed the quality test at the lab of the NIT Kurukshetra, but the complainant was not satisfied and demanded a test from the Shri Ram Institute for Industrial Research, Faridabad, where the samples of tiles failed the test, the Commissioner asserted.

“The contractor had died so his son received the payment for the work two years ago. Now, we have issued notices to the contractor’s son for the recovery of Rs 6 lakh, which he received from the MC,” she maintained.
