An armyman’s feat of running 100 km in 17 hours and 50 minutes while carrying a 10-kg bag of soil on his shoulders will enter the Limca Book of Records.

Shreeom (36) of 21 Assam Rifles and posted in Manipur was given the target to run 100 km ultra-marathon with a 10-kg weight in 22 hours by the authorities of the Limca Book of Records.

The armyman from this district’s Lakhan Majra village completed the ultra-marathon under the supervision of chief athletic coach Krishan Siwach and two other officials deputed by the District Sports Officer.

Shreeom left Lakhan Majra at 2 pm on Sunday and covered Julana, Gohana and Rohtak before returning to Lakhan Majra. Of the 100 km, he completed 72 km in 12 hours without a break.

A former NSG Black Cat Commando, Shreeom is an international black belt in karate (II Dan), winner of a national gold medal in 2006 and bronze medal in Asia Cup Karate Championship 2007. He is a karate coach at his unit school in Manipur. He played kabaddi during his school days.

“I always wanted to do something outstanding. Ever since I learnt of a similar world record, I resolved to set a new one,” he said, adding that his training at the armed forces helped him achieve the target. “Physical and mental capabilities of a human body are immense, and one should try to enhance these by exercising regularly,” Shreeom said.
