Sirsa, October 6

Following directions from the Supreme Court for re-investigation by a senior IPS officer, Rohtak IG Shrikant Jadhav will now investigate the four-year-old case of gang rape and murder of a Muslim girl at Kagdana village of Sirsa.

Justice has been eluding the victim’s family all these years because the local police filed the case in 2011 as a hit-and–run accident..

The victim’s brother, a junior engineer in a Haryana government department, who had been running from pillar to post to get the case investigated either by the CBI or an upright and honest officer of the Haryana Police, suggested Jadhav’s name after Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Prafulla C. Pant of the Supreme Court directed the DGP, Haryana, in August to get the matter inquired by a senior IPS officer.

Confirming having received the orders for inquiry, Jadhav said he had already constituted an SIT comprising Jhajjar DSP Ajeet Singh, Kalanwali DSP Aryan and two inspectors, Lalit Kumar and Dharambir from Jhajjar and Odhan, respectively, for this purpose.

The 15-year-old victim was allegedly kidnapped from her village, Chiriya Gandhi in Bhadra tehsil of Rajasthan situated on Sirsa district’s border, on the night of December 10, 2011.

After her gang rape, the victim was clubbed to death and her body was crushed under a heavy vehicle near Kagdana village of Sirsa.

However, the police had then filed this case as an accidental death and registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) against unknown persons.

In a report published in these columns, The Tribune had expressed doubts about police action since the girl’s death was shrouded in mystery. Later, the victim’s viscera received from the forensic science lab made it clear that she was gang-raped before her death.

SIT to probe Hisar ashram ‘sexual abuse’ case

The Haryana Police on Tuesday set up a special investigation team (SIT) for a thorough investigation into alleged case of sexual abuse of some girls in an ashram in the district. IG Anil Kumar Rao formed the SIT comprising DSP Bhagwan Dass, Inspector Lalit Kumar, SHO Hisar Sadar police station, and two women police officials Nanhi Devi and Saroj. The SIT will also take the assistance of the Child Welfare Department. The team would probe all aspects related to the complaint lodged by the Deputy Commissioner, Hisar. The police had registered a case under Sections 294, 323, 354 of the IPC; Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act and Section 12 of the POCSO Act in Sadar police station here on October 2. The SIT on Wednesday evening produced minor girls for recording their statements in front of the Judicial Magistrate. — TNS
