Rs2.72-cr herbal park to come up at Sirsa varsity

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today inaugurated the building of the law department and a girls hostel at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, through video-conferencing. He also laid the foundation stone of a new teaching block and a herbal park there.

Dr Ambedkar Bhawan for students of the law department came up at a cost of Rs 12 crore while Rs 9.50 crore was spent on Savitri Bai Phule girls hostel.

The two other projects for which he laid the foundation stones are the Rs 27.69-crore teaching block No. 4 and a herbal park to be developed on five acres at a cost of Rs 2.72 crore.

Every time the Chief Minister clicked the mouse from here to inaugurate or lay a foundation stone of a project, the responsive audience sitting in the multipurpose hall of the university responded with loud cheers.

Khattar also announced a grant of Rs 36 crore for strengthening the infrastructure. He said a number of steps had been taken to bring about a positive change in the education system.

Five new government colleges have been opened in the last two years and there is a plan to open 22 new colleges soon.

Apart from this, approval has been granted for the opening of 33 new self-financing degree colleges and four self-financing law colleges.

Describing women’s education as one of the priorities, he said the government planned to set up a women’s college within a radius of 20 km. “This will ensure that our daughters don’t have to go to far-off places for education,” he said.

The Chief Minister said to employ the youth, emphasis was also being laid on their skill development.

He said during the golden jubilee year of Haryana, various programmes for youngsters were being organised.

The government would soon organise ‘Khel Mahakubh’ in the state which would provide the youth an opportunity to understand each other in a better way, Khattar said.

Education Minister Rambilas Sharma and Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Dr Mahavir Prasad were present with the Chief Minister in Chandigarh while Deputy Commissioner Sharandeep Kaur Brar,

Vice-Chancellor Dr Vijay Kayat and BJP leader Ganeshi Lal were in Sirsa.
