The much-awaited courses of BSc nursing and BSc physiotherapy will commence from Wednesday, but not in the building of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya University of Health Sciences in Kutail, which is being constructed in 144 acres.

Classes of both courses will start from the building of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMCH), which is also a part of the university, till the buildings of both the courses are constructed in Kutail.

Sources say the authorities have started both courses in haste as the regular faculty members are yet to be appointed. The faculty members of existing nursing school in Karnal and from Rohtak institute will provide their services till the appointment of the regular staff members. The authorities claim to appoint regular staff soon.

In August, the Chief Minister, during his visit to the site of the university, claimed that the buildings of physiotherapy and nursing college, part of the university, would be completed by September end and he had also announced that the classes of both the subjects would start in October.

So far, the work on the university building is still underway. The sources associated with the university claim that the construction of the buildings for both courses would take time. However, to keep the word of the Chief Minister, the authorities have begun the process of starting the classes from Wednesday.

“The courses of nursing and physiotherapy will commence on Wednesday. Till the construction of the buildings at the university in Kutail is completed, the classes would continue on the premises of KCGMCH,” said Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH.

As many as 40 seats are reserved for BSc nursing and 30 seats for BSc physiotherapy, he maintains.
