SC panel summons DGP over atrocities committed on Dalits

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes today issued summons to the Director General of Police (DGP) to appear before it in its Delhi office on December 12. The commission was hearing complaints of Dalit victims of atrocities of Pabnawa village in the district.

The commission has asked the DGP to explain the role of Kaithal police officials who had allegedly booked the Dalits in a cross case.

In another case, The commission directed the Patiala administration to constitute an SIT comprising the Samana SDM, DSP (Headquarters) and City Magistrate, Patiala, to trace a missing youth and submit the action taken report within a fortnight.

A Dalit youth of Sarola village in the district had disappeared about two months ago and the commission had asked the SSP of Patiala to appear before it here today. However, in his absence of the SSP, Samana DSP appeared before the commission.

A member of the commission said that the motorcycle of the missing youth was found on a bridge in Samana area of Patiala. A case was registered by the Samana police, but investigation report was still awaited, he said.

The panel member also directed Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Joon to set up an inquiry to find out how Suba, a Muslim from the ‘Doom’ community, managed to get the SC certificate to get Kithana village panchayat land on lease reserved for the SC category people. Commission member Ishwar Singh directed that a criminal case be registered against Suba and the role of officials who had helped him in preparing the certificate be probed so that guilty could be punished.

The commission also directed the administration to help 183 SC allottees of 100-yard plots in Bhuna village in getting possession of the plots.
