A scrap dealer’s shop, Hani Kabari Store, on the Chhatrawas road here was gutted in a fire on Sunday night. Stocks estimated at around Rs 15 lakh in value were destroyed.

Fire engines reached the shop and tried to control the fire. However, when the fire could not be controlled, fearing it could spread to adjoining shops, more fire engines were requisitioned from Cheeka, Narwana, Jind and Pehowa towns. Ten fire engines finally managed to control the fire around 8 am on Monday.

Scrap dealer Sumit Thareja, a resident of New Ashoka Colony, said that he got information around midnight on Sunday about a fire break out in his shop. When he reached the shop, fire engines were already there and firefighters were trying to extinguish the blaze.

He said that he had locked the shop Sunday night and could not say how the fire broke out. Scrap stocks valuing about Rs 15 lakh to Rs 16 lakh were destroyed, he added.
