The All-India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) has kept the district administration guessing about the venue of its dharna adjoining Mayyar village, which has been the centre of Jat agitations in the past.

The administration has not given permission for the dharna and tightened the security by imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Hisar and Bhiwani districts.

AIJASS president Yashpal Malik said Jat and khap leaders who were in talks with the state government did not represent the agitation.

“I have made it clear to the government to keep its promise of June last year. We want the government to fulfil its promise on criminal cases registered against Jat youths languishing in jails. There is nothing more to talk to the government,” he said.

Malik said he would not be coming to Haryana tomorrow and would be attending a programme in Punjab. “But all 19 district units would start dharnas as per the schedule. We expect to draw enough gathering to show our solidarity and to pressurise the government. These would be peaceful dharnas”, he said.

The Jat leader said that they would not disclose the venue of the dharna as the administration would try to create hurdles for the people who want to reach the venue. “Definitely, a respectable gathering would be at the dharna somewhere adjoining Mayyar village in Hisar,” he said.

The state government, on the other hand, has been leaving no stone unturned to make Mayyar dharna a non-starter as its consolidation could give strength to the stir. The government has deputed an OSD to the Chief Minister, Capt Bhupinder, a native of Mayyar village, to persuade the villagers against joining the dharna.
