CHANDIGARH: Instead of three sittings as proposed by the government initially, the current monsoon session of the Haryana Assembly has been extended by a day; the House will have a double-sitting on September 4.

Instead of three sittings as proposed by the government initially, the current monsoon session of the Haryana Assembly has been extended by a day; the House will have a double-sitting on September 4.

This was decided by the Business Advisory Committee which met before the commencement of the session. The demand for a longer session was raised by members of the Opposition during the meeting. These recommendations will be tabled in the House tomorrow.

The members of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha paid tributes to prominent personalities who passed away between the period from the end of the previous session and the beginning of the current monsoon session which began today. They also observed two-minute silence to pay homage to the departed souls.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, also the Leader of the House paid tributes to Bharat Ratna and former president of India APJ Abdul Kalam, First Lady of India Suvra Mukherjee, former Union Minister of State Chand Ram, former Minister of State Sham Dass Mukhija, former Member of Haryana Legislative Assembly Amir Chand and former Member of Haryana Legislative Assembly Devender Kumar Bansal.

Speaker Kanwar Pal and State BJP chief Subhash Barala also read out the obituary resolutions and paid tribute to the departed souls.

Leader of Opposition in the House Abhay Chautala, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry and HJC’s Kuldeep Bishnoi also read obituary resolutions on behalf of their parties.

The House paid homage to freedom fighters Nandlal Bharti of Manethi village in Rewari district, Jaidev of Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district and Bhola Ram of Sihor village in Mahendragarh district.

The House also paid homage to 15 martyrs from the state, these included Lieutenant Kiran Shekhawat, Inspector Kanshiram, Subedar Jagroop, Havildar Rajesh Kumar among others.

The House also paid tributes to four policemen including SP Baljit Singh and three civilians who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Gurdaspur district of Punjab on July 27.

Apart from this, the House also paid tributes to 11 persons who lost their life in a stone-crusher collapse at Dhulera village in Narnaul sub-division of Mahendergarh district.
