Sirsa/Fatehabad, Feb 13
Situation remained calm in Sirsa district even as some activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Ekta (BKE) staged dharna on the Dabwali road near Khairekan village in Dabwali subdivision today. The activists said the Punjab farmers in the areas adjoining Sirsa and Fatehabad districts had decided to take the Khanori-Data Singh Wala route to Delhi instead of trying to breach the blockades put up in the two districts.
The police and paramilitary forces deployed at the Punjab borders kept the situation under control. The police have also blocked most main roads at Dabwali and others by putting up multilayer blockades.
The BKE activists have reportedly crossed over to Punjab via link roads from Khairekan village. A group of farmers who tried to march towards Delhi from Umedpura village in Ellenabad subdivision were held by the police and let off after some time. The activists said they had joined the cavalcade of Punjab farmers who had marched towards the Khanori-Data Singh Wala border.
Sirsa SP Vikrant Bhushan said the situation remained peaceful in the district.
In Fatehabad district, about 100 Haryana farmers under the banner of BKU (Kheti Bachao) tried to march towards Delhi from Ratia. However, the police blocked their way about 10 km before Fatehabad town by putting up blockades. The farmers stayed put at the spot, where they were stopped by the police. They said they would go towards Delhi tomorrow. In Hisar, the DC and SP visited various checkposts being installed on the Hisar-Delhi road.
The police have geared up for blockades with huge boulders near Agroha town and Mayyar village on the Sirsa-Hisar-Delhi highway to block the road in case there is mobilisation of farmers towards Delhi.
