After completing six months in power CM Manohar Lal Khattar called it an ‘inspiring period,’ but Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Choudhry described this time as a period of agony for the farmers, infamy for the working class and double whammy for those who voted the BJP to power.

“With not even a single promise made in the run-up to the polls being honoured, the Khattar Government has let down the people who are already ruing their decision to vote BJP to power,” Choudhry alleged. She listed various counts on which the state regime had gone back on its promises. Choudhry added, “The farmers were made to run from pillar to post and brave police lathis to get urea. And now their produce is not being lifted by the state agencies.”

She claimed, “Even the BJP high command is not satisfied with the performance of the state government in the past six months and has advised Khattar to shed some of his portfolios and reshuffle the Cabinet to manage things better.”

Farmers are a depressed lot
The CLP leader said the farmers have suffered the maximum under the saffron rule. So much so, some have been driven to end their lives as they got no relief from the Khattar Government after their crops were devastated by the unseasonal rain and hailstorms. While the BJP regime has not been able to solve the long-pending and contentious issue of water sharing between Punjab and Haryana, it keeps promising ‘Har Khet Ko Paani’. “From where will it bring sufficient water supply to keep its word?” Choudhry questioned.

State govt employees unhappy
The state government employees are getting jittery as the government has failed to fulfil its promises such as paying them pay-scales at par with their Punjab counterparts, doubling the education allowance for their children regularising ad hoc employees. This has made them, especially the computer teachers, hit the streets, Choudhry said.

Common man angry
The common man is angry over the hike in prices of essential commodities. The hike in VAT on petrol is anti-farmer, anti-people and inflationary. Water and power are in short supply and the layman sees no ray of hope under the BJP rule that had promised them ‘Achhe Din’. “If this is what this government calls satisfactory, then heavens should save the state people,” Choudhry stated.
