Karnal, May 22

Patients and their attendants had to face a tough time at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) due to disruption of electricity supply. The electricity supply to the KCGMCH was disrupted around 6pm yesterday due to technical snag as a result of rain accompanied by thunderstorm. The generators also failed to support the load.

However, the electricity was restored in the emergency and hospital buildings late last night. However, the blackout forced the doctors and paramedical staff to work under the light of mobile phones.

The OPD and hospital buildings were inaugurated by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar last month. For smooth supply of electricity, special lines were installed. Two big generators were also installed on the campus to supply power in emergency.

“Due to rain accompanied by thunderstorm, a fault had developed in the electricity supply. Power supply to the emergency and hospital buildings was restored late last night,” said Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH.
