Standing wheat crop and stubbles on nearly 100 acres in Sandal Kalan village of the district were destroyed in a fire on Friday.

Due to delay in arrival of fire tenders and high wind velocity, the fire spread immediately and engulfed a large area. Farmers said that the cause of the fire was not known, but it had caused heavy losses.

They urged the government to assess the losses and pay the compensation at the earliest.

There had been 11 incidents of fire after commencement of the wheat harvesting season in the district.
