Following intelligence inputs from the CID, the district police have been taking steps to check drug smuggling. Besides, the police have identified some villages at the district border and other parts in the city to run awareness campaigns.

The police have also identified some areas, which need special attention, and initiated several measures to keep the youngsters away from drugs. The police are also organising sports events in villages to raise awareness about the issue.

Volleyball tourney

  • The CIA-1 team organised a volleyball tournament at Rana Majra village on Sunday. Teams from Rana Majra, Garhi Besak, Sanoli, Patthargarh and CIA-1 participated in the tournament.
  • SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the tournament. Special volleyball kits were also distributed among players of Rana Majra and Garhi Besak village teams.

As per the CID intelligence, Rana Majra village, which is at the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border, is considered to be a hotspot for drug smuggling. As per the reports, close to 85 youths got addicted. Besides, a large number of people, including women, are involved in the smuggling of drugs.

“Rana Majra village is situated on the banks of Yamuna and it has become a hotspot for drug smuggling. The villagers got drugs, especially smack, from Mandawar village of Kairana situated at the Uttar Pradesh border,”according to the CID report.

“Drugs are being spread to Gharaunda of Karnal, Barana, Babbail, Garhi Besak, Ugrakheri, Raja Kheri, Ujha, Machroli, Bapoli, Dahar, Sewah and some colonies in the city, including Ekta Vihar, Vidyanand Colony, Sai colony, Ram Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Babail road etc,” the report said.

SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat launched a special drive to check the drug menace in these identified areas and made a special cluster.

SP Shekhawat divided the areas among special CIAs and anti-narcotic cell (ANC) teams to work in these areas to curb the drug menace.

“The area near the Yamuna border, including Rana Majra and Garhi Besak village, has been handed over to the CIA-1 unit. The area of Madlauda, Dahar and Israna has been handed given to ANC. The CIA-2 unit is keeping a tab on identified colonies in the city, while the CIA-3 is keeping a tab on Chulkana, Bapoli and Samalkha areas,” said SP Shekhawat.

He said all the units have been directed to nab the suspects involved in drug smuggling. Besides, the teams have been told to organise activities to keep the youths away from drugs, he added.

The CIA-1 team led by Inspector Deepak Kumar held special programmes, games and awareness campaigns in Rana Majra village to keep the youths away from drugs, the SP added.
