The Health Department has withdrawn the services of four radiotherapy specialists of the HCMS cadre from the Regional Cancer Centre in Rohtak that is already facing a shortage of doctors.

The HCMS doctors of the rank of senior medical officer, serving at the centre on the PGIMS premises, have been told to join their parent cadre at the Health Department though the department does not have radiotherapy equipment.

PGIMS Medical Superintendent Ashok Chauhan, a senior professor at the centre, confirmed that the services of four HCMS doctors had been withdrawn.

The maintenance of requisite staff and infrastructure at radiotherapy centres was being regulated by the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board.

The authorities of the centre had been grappling with shortage of staff and writing to the authorities concerned to sanction more staff as per guidelines.

There was no consultant doctor in the rank of assistant professor or associate professor at the centre and there were only two senior resident doctors.

The authorities of the University of Health Sciences in Rohtak had been writing to the state authorities in this regard, but to no avail.
