Chandigarh, February 14

The Haryana Government has urged the Union Government to provide more metro links to the state. These include metro connectivity between Faridabad and Gurgaon, Dwarka and IFFCO Chowk in Gurgaon.

In a communication to the Centre, the state government has sought extension of metro from IFFCO Chowk to Sohna road. It also sought extension of metro to Kundli, Sonipat and metro link from YMCA Chowk, Faridabad, to Ballabhgarh.

On a metro link between Faridabad and Gurgaon, the state government said there was a proposal to link Qutub Minar and Badarpur station with metro by 2021 in Phase IV of the Delhi metro.

The state government has also requested Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu to get the link between Qutub Minar and Badarpur station completed by 2018.

Since the line between Qutub Minar and Badarpur station will pass through the Delhi area, the state has requested that a spur may be planned along this line, which may pass through the inhabited areas of northern Faridabad in Haryana, starting from Surajkund, and connect to a metro station on the Delhi-Faridabad route.

Regarding the metro link between Sector 21, Dwarka, and IFFCO Chowk, Gurgaon, the state has urged Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) to revise the detailed project report expeditiously. This metro extension link would not only provide smooth connectivity between Gurgaon and Dwarka, but also to Delhi airport and also on Line-3 of Delhi metro.

On metro extension from IFFCO Chowk to Sohna road, Gurgaon, in Phase IV of Delhi metro, the state has requested the DMRC to prepare a feasibility report. It will provide direct connectivity to the people living on the Sohna road and the areas on Delhi’s periphery.

Regarding extension of metro to Kundli , the state said there was a proposal to extend the Rithala-Bawana metro line to Narela in Phase-IV of Delhi metro.

On metro link from YMCA Chowk, Faridabad, to Ballabhgarh, the state government said the Centre had already approved the project.

At present, more than 12 km of metro lines are operational in Gurgaon which is well connected with Delhi. Besides, 25-km metro lines are under construction — 13.875 km in Faridabad, 4.875 km in Bahadurgarh and 6.5 km in Gurgaon.

The project for extension of Delhi metro to YMCA Chowk, Faridabad, is in an advanced stage of construction. Route length of this corridor is 13.875 km and the project cost is Rs 2,494 crore. The state government will contribute Rs 1,557.40 crore, the Centre Rs 536.60 crore and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd Rs 400 crore. The project is likely to be completed by May/June 2015.

The project for extension of Delhi metro from Mundka to City Park in Bahadurgarh is also under construction. Route length of this metro corridor is 11.182 km, out of which 6.307 km falls under Delhi and 4.875 km in Haryana. Out of the total project cost of Rs 1,991 crore, Haryana will contribute Rs 787.96 crore. The project is likely to be completed by March 2016.

After the construction of these lines, Faridabad is likely to be connected with Delhi by May/June 2015, and Bahadurgarh is likely to be connected with Delhi by March 2016.

The project for the development of metro link from Sikanderpur station to Sector 56, Gurgaon, is being implemented in the PPP mode. This project was awarded to the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon South Ltd on October 1, 2012. Route length of this project is 6.5 km and the cost is Rs 2,143 crore.
