Storm effect: Dozens of F’bad villages still without power

The storm that lashed the district on Sunday and Wednesday morning has disrupted power and water supply in both the urban and rural areas.

The storm has not only disrupted the power supply in the region, but the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has also suffered a loss of nearly Rs 1 crore. A total of 354 electric poles were uprooted and nearly 43 transformers were damaged in the storm.

Sources said the material cost of the damaged infrastructure was stated to be nearly Rs 64 lakh, the department was being burdened with an additional cost of Rs 35 lakh in the form of labour and other charges.

“The department has been able to repair nearly 90 per cent of the total 523 feeders in the district by Wednesday evening,” said the sources.

However, nearly 47 feeders that supply power to nearly 55 villages in the Badrola subdivision are still to resume supply fully as the repair and restoration work is still going on.

The supply line to Badrola was maintained by the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, said an official.

Though the supply after Sunday storm was restored after a few hours, but the repeat of high speed winds that lashed are area on Wednesday morning again disrupted the supply and there was no power till 6 pm, said Vijay Pal of Badrola village. Vinay Bhati of Korali village also complained that there was no power since Tuesday noon.

Deputy Commissioner Atul Kumar Diwedi said that supply was likely to be restored within a couple of hours.

Mohammed Shayin, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Faridabad, said that about 70 per cent of water supply had been restored and efforts were on to restore the supply in the remaining areas.
