The police are clueless about the whereabouts of the three accused even 25 days after Atasha (23) allegedly committed suicide at her father’s house in Ashoka Nursery on October 22.

The three accused in the case are Atasha’s husband Pranav Choudhary, who is an SDO in the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Board, her father-in-law Mahipal, a Superintending Engineer in the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC), and mother-in-law Sheela. They are all residents of Sector 9 here.

Atasha’s father Manoj Kumar said their daughter got married to Pranav on February 15 this year. He alleged that Atasha’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law constantly harassed her, forcing her to take the extreme step. The police had booked the trio under various sections of the IPC.

The Civil Lines police have conducted raids in various parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi but failed to arrest the accused. However, they have arrested two of their relatives for giving shelter to the trio. Atasha’s family members are unhappy over the police failure to arrest the accused.

Now, the police have issued lookout notices against them. “The police have been making all efforts to locate the accused. Both father and son are not attending duties,” said Mohan Lal, SHO, Civil Lines. “We have now issued lookout notices against them,” he added.

Aatasha’s family members had protested for justice in front of Minister of State for Labour and Employment Nayab Singh Saini last month who had directed the police to arrest the accused, but nothing happened. A family member alleged that some officials were trying to save the accused.
