Support for guest teachers: Khaps to lock all govt schools on July 14

The state BJP government is once again in a tight spot over its stand on sacked guest teachers. Mounting pressure on the government, the state khaps today announced to lock all government schools on July 14, if the government failed to reinstate these teachers till July 12.

Senior khap members made this announcement during the Sarv Jatiya Sarv Khap Mahapanchayat held at the Jat Dharamshala, here today.

Tek Ram Kandela, national convener of Sarv Khap Panchayat (SKP), said: “The BJP government is not serious in solving the problems of the sacked guest teachers. They are trying to put the blame on the teachers, which is not right. The government must reinstate them by July 12, or else we will lock all government schools on July 14.”

The BJP governments both at the Centre and the state level have been criticised by khap leaders for removing guest teachers and delaying reservation to Jats.

“Despite assurances from PM Narendra Modi and other senior BJP leaders including CM Manohar Lal Khattar to provide justice to Jats, there has been no action from BJP leaders to provide reservation to Jats under the OBC category. We will seal all entrances to New Delhi on September 28 and start an indefinite protest if the governemt does not pay heed to our demands,” said Sube Singh Sumain, Sarv Jat Khap Panchayat spokesman.

The reservation for Jats was scrapped in March by the Supreme Court and since then Jat leaders have been meeting various BJP leaders to get justice. Jats and khap members have called a state-level meeting on July 12 in Kurukshetra to mobilize support for their agitation in New Delhi seeking reservation.
